Jakobstad ( Финский : Пиетарсаари Pietarsaari) -
town, western Finland , northeast of the city of Vaasa. Pietarsaari, which was formerly mainly Swedish-speaking, was founded in 1652; it became an important commercial centre because of its location on the Gulf of Bothnia .
